Issue 3 - American Dream
When we were kids, many of us were led to believe that the United States was the best place to be. Even from afar, we were sold the American dream, injected through the glitz and glamour of Hollywood and MTV. We then realized how the reality of the US is more convoluted and complex than an episode of Dawson Creek or Laguna Beach, and in fact, a boiling pot of contradictions. A country where at one end, you can find the open and proud LGBTQ+ communities of Provincetown and at another end, extreme white supremacist groups like the KKK. Yet, we can’t help but continue to be fascinated by America, and even when we may have witnessed the dark side of it, we think of the American Dream as the El Dorado where all our dreams will come true.
In this issue, we hope to convey the complex, multifaceted vision of America, showcasing not only its physical and cultural vastness as a country, but its continuously evolving narrative where everything is indeed possible.
We're grateful to the talented artists who've shared their work and stories with us, making this issue possible and showing us, through each of their unique practices, their own reflections about the American dream:
